*NEW* 03/08/2009: CHANCE FOR A TREBLE TROPHY YEAR

Filleigh has a chance to win three trophies in one year. The indoor season saw Filleigh as champions and now the North Devon League and Devon League (F Division) could have Filleigh's name engraved in 2009. Filleigh are clear leaders in the Devon League and are closely battling with Heathcoat for the North Devon League title. The second team however are fighting hard to avoid relegation as they are at the bottom of Division Two. The third team are mid-table in Division Five.

The first team beat Newton Tracey most recently, continuing their one-loss season so far. Filleigh were put in on a difficult batting surface but managed to score a respectable 192-8 in their 45 overs. Mark Prideaux (40) looked in fine form and James Hill continued his incredible lower order hitting with a quickfire unbeaten 41. Newton Tracey could only manage 125 all out in reply, thanks to economical bowling from Jamie Palmer and Gary Henry taking three wickets. Meanwhile, Hill went from what he described as 'hero to zero' as he was forced to be taken out of the attack for bowling three dangerous beamers in one over.

01/06/2009: FILLEIGH SHOW TALENT

The 1st team are top of the North Devon League after beating Bideford in a thrilling contest. Bideford batted first and early dropped catches  allowed them to make 233-6 in their 45 overs. Opening bowlers Jamie Palmer and Jonny Hickman took two wickets each. In reply, Filleigh got off to a good start at 78-0, things started to go wrong though, as the home side fell to 146-7 with two new batsmen (number eight Toby Lochead and number nine James Hill) on zero. Needing around 10 runs an over, the target looked very difficult for the Filleigh boys. However, Hill, in the side mainly as a bowler, showed his true talent with the bat as he smashed an unbeaten 62 from 38 balls. Lochead played a fine innings under pressure for 16 not out as an 8th wicket partnership of 91 saw Filleigh home with more than two overs to spare.

In the North Devon 20/20 competition, Filleigh hit 184-7 batting first against Kelseymen at Braunton. Tom Marsh continued his good form with the bat this season as he smashed an incredible 73 not out from just 30 balls. Mike Prideaux then took 5-11 from 4 overs as the opposition were restricted to 89-9 in their 20 overs.

Marsh's fine knock didn't earn him a place in the Devon League side a few days later however. Filleigh batted first against Upottery and hit 221-8. Martin Collier hit 71, Simon Prideaux hit 59, and Andy Collier chipped in with 28. Upottery closed on 175-8 as Ryan Bowden took three wickets and Mike Prideaux took two. The winning draw leaves Filleigh unbeaten in their first year in the Devon Cricket League.

Filleigh won their second successive game in the Devon League with captain Martin Collier hitting 46 in total of 171. Tom Marsh also contributed with 40. The opposition Kingskerswell were then bowled out for 114 with Jonny Hickman taking 4-21 in 12.4 overs and James Hill taking 3-18 in 13 overs.

After a sound start from openers Kalsi (31) and Ross Dening (30), Filleigh lost wickets and fell behind the clock until Martin Collier with a brutal 64 not out from must 24 deliveries saw them home by 4 wickets with his sixth six with just 4 balls left.

Three games were scheduled on the weekend. Saturday saw the 3rd team tie with Barnstaple & Pilton, both sides hit 223. Ross Dening continued his fine form with the bat as he hit 88. The wickets were then shared around as Barnstaple & Pilton managed to tie the game. The wrong score was on the scoreboard, stating the opposition needed 13 runs to win in the last over - they really only needed 3, luckily for Filleigh they only managed to scrape 2 runs. On Sunday, the first team's game was washed out at Sandford. The 2nd team however, played through rain but only to lose the game. They restricted Hatherleigh to 194 with Colin Robins taking 5 wickets with good line and length bowling. Filleigh only manged 104 in reply with the Marsh brother James (32) and Tom (23) being among the top run scorers. James Popplewell showed more promise with the bat this time as he hit an unbeaten 26.
